Officials Approve $500M Monmouth Mall Plan

Redevelopment plans for the Monmouth Mall, located in Eatontown, were approved on Monday July 16. The town's planning board voted 7-1, approving the plans to turn the mall into a mixed-used complex called The Heights at Monmouth. It will include 700 apartments, dining and entertainment venues, retail and even medical facilities. The half billion dollar plan is a joint project by Kushner Companies and Brookfield Properties

However, the project isn't without controversy. Local residents who oppose the project created a Facebook page and have accused officials of putting Kushner's interests ahead of residents. They're calling it "Mallgate." In addition, the project will need to receive approval from the New Jersey Department of Transportation before moving forward.

There is currently no time frame for the project's start date or completion.
