Study says it's better not to date in high school

Some kids are shy in high school and some are not. I wasn't shy when it came to sports and performing on stage but I was shy with girls. Some of my friends did have girlfriends and it worried me. My mom and dad used to tell me I'd be fine. They said I should just concentrate on school. Now a new study seems to show my mom and dad were right. The study followed 600 10th graders who were not romantically involved. The results of the study showed those kids had better social skills, were better leaders and had lower levels of depression. So kids who skip the stress of the dating scene in high school turn out to be more socially adjusted. I'm not psychologist but I think it's perfectly fine for kids to date in high school. Dating only becomes a problem when things get too serious on an emotional level. This happened with a couple of my kids and I became very concerned. There will always be couples who were high school sweethearts and live happily ever after. However, a vast majority of us really don't know what kind of partner we want when we're 16. One of my high school teachers used to advise kids against getting too serious by saying: How can you pick the best rose if you've never had a bouquet?" So go to the movies, go to the prom, go to the beach and have fun. Just keep it light and not too serious.
