New Jersey residents are picking up the pieces after high winds wreaked havoc across the state Monday. Most of those who lost power during yesterday's windstorms have their electricity back today, but crews are still working to restore power to several hundred homes.

Wind speeds reached up to 60 miles per hour, causing flight delays at local airports and leading to road closures in Teaneck and Ramsey due to fallen trees and power lines. In Hillsdale, a resident reported seeing a tree fall on her neighbor's home.

The National Weather Service had placed New Jersey and surrounding areas under a wind advisory early Monday morning. Power outages were widespread with PSE&G reporting 4,392 affected customers and JCP&L noting 9,570 affected customers statewide by Monday evening.

The strong winds also posed risks on the roads. The National Weather Service advised extra caution when driving, especially for those operating high-profile vehicles. They also recommended securing outdoor objects as gusty winds could blow around unsecured items.

Residents can report outages to PSE&G by texting OUT to 4PSEG (47734), calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734), or visiting their website at nj.pseg.com. Outages can be reported to JCP&L at https://www.firstenergycorp.com/outages_help/Report_Power_Outages.html or by calling 888-544-4877.

As cleanup efforts continue, residents can expect some relief from the weather. Warmer air is expected to return today as winds subside.
