The theft of proceeds from the Franklin Borough Fire Department Spaghetti Dinner has lead to an investigation by the state Bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control and possibly the state Attorney General's Office. According to a press release from the Franklin Borough Police the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control was contacted after police discovered gambling equipment on the second floor of the firehouse in a social area.
Yesterday afternoon inspectors from the ABC and borough police were seen removing alcoholic beverages and gambling equipment from the firehouse. The gambling equipment is in the custody of the police department until the state can take possession.
There has been no comment on the matter from Franklin Borough officials. The fire department does have a club liquor license which allows for immediate consumption of alcoholic beverages in open containers. The gambling equipment at the firehouse could mean the possibility of a future investigation by state gaming officials.
I know many very nice people who are volunteer firemen in Franklin Borough. I hope no one gets into serious trouble over any of this.
