In April of 2015 Applied Resources Corporation in Wharton won a defense contract to manufacture machine gun stands for the U.S. Army. When the army tried to use the stands they did not support the guns properly. Now the owner of the company is facing jail time. A press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Newark says Mark Colello of Hackettstown pleaded guilty to making false statements and representations in Federal Court. The stands required a specific grade of steel and Colello falsified test results for the hardness and magnetic particle inspection when he submitted bids for the contract. He is facing up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine when he is sentenced in January.
