As of yesterday the Worthington State Park forest fire is 80 percent under control after burning about 80 acres. Chris Franek assistant fire warden from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service told the New Jersey Herald 51 fire fighters from the state forest fire service and federal agencies were called to Mount Tamanny in Hardwick to fight the flames. Fire fighting efforts will continue today. Rain is forecast for the next couple of days which is expected to help keep any remaining fires from spreading. Thanks to fire fighting efforts and the wet weather the fire is expected to burn out. Franek says the fire was contained to Worthington State Forest and did not spread to the Delaware Water Gap National Park. Our mild and dry February is believed to have contributed to the fire starting. Two to three inches of snow usually covers the ground in the state park this time of year.
