Several hours after Governor Phil Murphy extended New Jersey's Public Health Emergency until June 6th, Sussex County Chamber of Commerce President Tammy Horsfield sent him a letter. In the letter she told the governor it was time to start opening businesses following the appropriate safety and health protocols. Horsfield went on to say "Our businesses are struggling with limited or no income, little or no reserves and far to few are receiving financial assistance from programs offered by both the state and federal governments. Her e-mail to chamber members urges them to write to the governor as well. To "share that they are prepared to follow safety protocols put into place including social distancing and cleaning/sanitizing standards." While hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents have filed for unemployment and businesses suffer millions of dollars in lost revenue. Murphy said more progress needs to be made. "We gotta do it right, we gotta do it responsibly, we've got to do it safely. We are committed to that. Frankly, whether you like it or not." The number of residents who have tested positive for corona virus is now over 131,000. Over 8,500 in New Jersey have died from corona virus related causes. Sussex County will be opening it's Covid-19 testing site by appointment on Monday. Over 1000 Sussex County residents have tested positive so far. The number of corona virus related deaths in Sussex County over the past 7 weeks is 122.
