What's next? One thousand new contact tracers

In the not to distant future a county health official could be knocking at your door. Governor Murphy wants to hire up to an additional 1,000 state workers to assist county health officials with contact tracing. That's double the number of health officials right now. This means if someone you know comes down with Covid-19 you could be hearing from one of these county health officials. The governor made the announcement yesterday while also saying New Jersey's testing capacity will be expanded to about 20,000 a day by the end of the month. State Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said there could be a need for up to 5,000 contact tracers might be needed and a few weeks ago the governor's estimate was 7,000. So here's what I don't understand. There are plenty of people heading to supermarkets, home improvement centers and big box stores like Walmart everyday in New Jersey. There is no way to prove one specific person has spread the virus to someone they have visited or work with. A person who has the virus could have gotten it in a store. How do you contact trace everyone who visited Shop Rite, Home Depot or Walmart? This is really getting scary for me.
