Nicholas Powers of Hopatcong was taken into custody last Thursday after he told police he suffocated the mother of his girlfriend with a pillow as she slept. Patricia Owen's body was discovered by Hopatcong Police in her home on May 17th. When police arrived Power's told them he discovered Owen's body in her bedroom. At the time Powers did not tell police what he did. Powers did tell other people. Including his girlfriend Kimberly Owen. One of the people Powers told about the suffocation called police. In his confession, police say Powers told them he killed Owen because he did not like the way she treated her daughter. Powers is 24 years old. He graduated from Hopatcong High School in 2014.
