While Congress continues to negotiate a new economic stimulus package. President Trump has signed an executive order that approves an extra $300 or $400 a week for Americans who lost their job due to coronavirus. The money is coming from $44 billion dollars in FEMA disaster funds. Yesterday, Governor Murphy said New Jersey's application was completed and is awaiting final approval. Matt Platkin the governor's chief counsel's exact words were: "We 're going back and fourth. They've asked some clarifying questions but nothing that will ultimately delay the distribution of benefits." 1.5 Million people in New Jersey have filed for unemployment benefits since March. Payment will probably start arriving in checks by October. Anyone who was unemployed in August will receive retroactive $300 payments. According to FEMA's website 40 states have already been approved. The payments will continue until December 27th or until funds run out. Any new stimulus plan approved by the President and Congress would also end the $300 payments.
