My Epic Weekend In Pictures: Love Getting To Help Our Community

This weekend was definitely Epic, thanks to so many amazing friends we have here in Sussex County, New Jersey. 6 years ago we started our annual spring food drive, Backpack Snacks For Kids. Everything we collect stays local right here in Sussex County, so you're absolutely helping your neighbors going through tough times. While we have some terrific food programs that help kids get by during weekdays, too many of them end up going hungry on weekends. We don't think kids should be hungry. Years ago my friend Carol Novrit explained to me the severe need, noting that every single town in Sussex County has families below the poverty line. They also gave me the fun fact that because our Division Of Social Services Food Pantry can purchase food in bulk through the state food bank, for every dollar we collect they can buy 5 POUNDS OF FOOD! Huge help.

My weekend was off to quite the fun Saint Patrick's day start. I enjoyed meeting my new friend bagpiper John. I jokingly posted a poll on my @SteveAllanRadio Instagram story asking folks if I should wear a kilt myself and give folks nightmares. Fortunately, most voted on NO. These chicken legs and a kilt would almost certainly not be one of my stronger looks. Friday night it was so gorgeous outside hanging with my friends on the outdoor patio at The Cottage.

Saturday at Noon I was at Weis Market in Franklin on 23. It felt great getting to get back into food drive mode knowing we can help so many families right here in Sussex County. One of the things that makes our food drives amazing are the people. Whether it's my biker buddies The Warlocks, or the 8 year old girl handing me a bag of snacks likely going to someone around her age. It almost brought me to tears of joy seeing how full our bus was of food for those in need. So many of my friends came through in the clutch, big time!

That was an amazing experience. I don't know our totals yet, but this must have been our biggest Backpack Snacks For Kids yet!

Saturday afternoon I did a couple of victory beers at The Cottage on my way back to Vernon. I was impressed by my friend Mayor Paul's Saint Peter University's ring. It made me root even harder everyone's favorite cindarella story in this year's March Madness Tournament. Can you believe they made it to the Sweet 16 for the first time in their school history? What an amazing underdog story these guys are.

Sunday morning I couldn't sleep. Insomnia fun. Ugh. I was entertained by NFL Network at times. Ever have one of those weekend days where you can't sleep and can kinda just never rally and wake up? I was able to get a haircut from my stylist Jen at Pro Cutter's in Franklin which came out great. I just couldn't rally and wake myself up Sunday, it's like I slept walked through the day in a fog. All good. Saturday was so awesome with Backpack Snacks For Kids, it didn't matter anyway.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my Epic Weekend In Pictures. Time to start planning next weekend!
