This absolutely had all the makings of an Epic Weekend In Pictures. WOW. When you go all the way up to Lake Placid, New York, the views are simply amazing. You can enjoy both the beauty and history all around you. Since this was the home of the 1980 Olympics, and Miracle On Ice, it's one of those places similar to a Fenway Park in Boston or a Lambeau Field in Green Bay (where my New England Patriots lost yesterday ugh,) where you can just feel the history. Talk about a beautiful and wonderful place! I definitely want to go back to Lake Placid someday. I was so happy and honored to be invited for Tory and Kyle's wedding. With my dear friends Steve, Brad, JG and Tati it was our first time ever being at a wedding together. It's so great when you can celebrate happy occasions with friends. Getting to see Tory and Kyle so happy celebrating their love was amazing. Getting to see my wonderful friend Steve get to walk his daughter down the aisle made me tear up immediately. Everyone involved looked beautiful! We will start my Epic Weekend In Pictures with Friday afternoon fun. I met new friends!
Congratulations to Sparta Nursery & Garden Center! They won our Friday Office Lunch Party from Quarry Grill on 23 in Franklin. They were psyched. With our radio station, you really can win such a thing as free lunch! I had a great time meeting them. They have a fun, hard working team over there, that's for sure. It's always fun being popular Friday afternoons giving out free lunch to everyone. People sure smile when they see me show up.
After I met my new friends in Sparta, it was time to hit the road. My bestie Brad volunteered to carpool on our Epic road trip and I was psyched. Without traffic, Lake Placid is a 4.5-5 hour drive from here. Those drives can be rather lonely when you're driving solo. I was psyched that we could carpool together. This drive was absolutely Epic. Each hour we kept going north, the scenery became even more beautiful. Talk about fantastic light at the end of the tunnel! Every single hour we kept going north there was more and more beautiful Fall Foliage. I LOVE Fall Foliage. Growing up in New England can make you quite the Fall Foliage snob. I refer to myself as a Fall Foliage Elitist, not a snob, lol.
As you enter Lake Placid, you start seeing more Olympic items from the 1980 Winter Olympics. It really gives you chills and starts getting your blood pumping a little more knowing you're driving by somewhere in America that held The Olympics. The chills get stronger knowing you're so close to the sight of Miracle On Ice, one of the most memorable sporting finishes in history.
Friday night we arrived comfortably an hour or two before the Welcome party. Success. I didn't have to change my clothes, I kept it business casual with a sweater over button down pink shirt, with dark denim A Team True Religion jeans. I just sat on my patio enjoying the ambiance and gorgeous views. I joked that my hotel room was in the hood. My Crowne Plaza was one of the further hotels away from all of the wedding action, but it did save me $100 per night by doing so. It was garden level and there were natural fences that still didn't really take away too much from the view.
You're basically playing on house money when at Lake Placid, especially this weekend. They're almost in peak Fall Foliage and there was so much beauty and nature everywhere you looked, as far as the eye could see. Whether it was beautiful water and trees up close, or gorgeous mountains in the distance, it's tough to be in a bad/sad mood when you're out there. So often I could feel myself smiling looking around everywhere. For me Lake Placid was almost like a combination of Newport, Rhode Island, Maine, and Vernon, New Jersey.
The Friday night Welcome Party was a great time. It was so nice to meet friends and family of Tory and Kyle, many we've been hearing about for years. It was great to be able to put faces to the names we've been hearing from them. Lots of amazing people all in one restaurant on Lake Placid.
Saturday morning I went for a nice walk around Lake Placid. I probably walked approximately half of it or so. I called Madre for my Saturday weekly check in call and was so happy raving about how awesome the scenery was there. I might send them to Lake Placid for their wedding anniversary next year. I bet they would also love it there. Saturday for lunch Brad, JG and I went to one of the restaurants that was right on the water. The meal was okay, the views were absolutely gorgeous. After lunch it was time to go back to my hotel room and suit up!
It's one of those deals where 5+ years ago, when you're going to a wedding it's automatic to suit up. A week ago I was planning to wear my gray pinstripe suit, white dress shirt. As we got closer I then decided to add a black tie to my outfit. I'm happy with the way it came out. Pretty much everyone was suited up and looking great.
Here we go! Saturday 4:30 time for the wedding! The Fall weather was doable if you were wearing a suit jacket, but a little chilly for the ladies wearing dresses. Fortunately the outdoor ceremony wasn't too long (well easy for me to say, I wasn't wearing a dress - trying to cut back on doing that ;) and everything else after was indoors.
Talk about one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever been to. The water, mountains as a backdrop was just simply breathtaking, and in a good way, not The Seinfeld way. Tory and Kyle were looking absolutely gorgeous.
The wedding was beautiful. My steak dinner was fantastic. It was great to see smiling faces as far as the eye could see. CONGRATULATIONS, TORY AND KYLE!!!!! Thank you so much for inviting me!
Sunday morning Brad and I hit the road. I did breakfast at the hotel, but Brad hadn't eaten yet. We found a random small diner on our way back probably 40 mins from Lake Placid in the Plattsburgh, New York area. While looking at the menu, we spotted something we had never ever heard of before. You could get a "Michigan burger," or a hot dog with added "Michigan sauce." We were intrigued. We looked it up, Michigan sauce is basically meat sauce that can be spicy sometimes, and is popular in Plattsburgh, New York area. Do you think this is actually popular in Michigan? Probably not, LOL, but it is in Plattsburgh.
I made it home just in time to see the 2nd half of my Patriots losing to the Green Bay Packers. Even though they lost in Overtime by a field goal at the end, I'm still proud of their efforts. They were forced to play their 3rd string Quarterback, ie, the backup TO the backup, at historic Lambeau Field. They gave Green Bay quite the run for their money.
My fantasy football teams aren't looking too hot, but not too too bad overall long term.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my Epic Weekend In Pictures. Time to start planning next weekend!
