"The Defender" has been sitting at the bottom of Long Island Sound for 75 years. The experimental submarine with wheels was built in 1907. It was inspired by the Jules Verne book "20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea." When it was built "The Defender" had wheels and could be driven along the bottom of a body of water. Drivers discovered the wreck off the coast of Old Saybrook this past weekend. One day researchers hope to raise the historic sub. Then restore it and put it into a museum.
