Residents of the Tri-State are in for a treat as temperatures are set to soar into the 70s this week. The region is bracing for near record-breaking warmth on Thursday, with the mercury expected to reach a high of 77 degrees in Newark and 75 degrees in Sussex.

This sudden surge in temperature is not just a random fluctuation, but rather a significant deviation from the norm. The current record for October 26th in Newark stands at 79 degrees, a high that was set back in 1964.

Temperatures could again hit 75 degrees on Friday - and 77 degrees on Saturday.

While residents enjoy this unexpected bout of summer-like weather, it's expected to be short-lived. The forecast indicates a return to more typical fall temperatures by Sunday, with highs dropping back down into the 60s.
