Atlantic City has announced plans to bolster its police force with the addition of 30 new officers. The move comes after the city received a substantial federal grant of nearly $3.75 million, officials confirmed on Monday.

The funds, which are part of a community policing grant, will be primarily used to hire school resource officers and traffic safety officers, according to a news release from the police department. The grant was reported by The Press of Atlantic City, highlighting the city’s commitment to enhancing public safety.

The grant is part of a larger initiative that has seen approximately $217 million in grants distributed nationwide. These funds aim to hire and retain an estimated 1,730 police officers across roughly 400 communities.

Atlantic City’s grant stands out as the largest in New Jersey and ranks among the largest in the United States. The city’s police department expressed gratitude for the grant, emphasizing its potential impact on the community.
