As the holiday season approaches, a time predicted to be the busiest travel period ever, a new study has revealed some concerning statistics for New Jersey travelers. The study, conducted by the insurance agency Insure My Trip, analyzed data from the federal Department of Transportation for 2023 and found that Newark Liberty International Airport leads the nation in flight cancellations.

Newark Airport has the highest rate of flight cancellations among all airports in the country, with 3.78% of flights being cancelled. Not far behind Newark are New York’s LaGuardia and JFK Airports, ranking second and third respectively. LaGuardia had 3.32% of flights canceled, followed by JFK at 2.91%.

Despite these figures, it’s worth noting that all three airports have actually seen a decrease in the frequency of canceled flights compared to 2022. However, the fact that the top three airports for cancellations are all in one area is likely to cause concern for travelers, especially those planning to travel for the holidays.
