The National Hockey League's 2024 NHL Stadium Series is slated to take place this weekend, February 17-18 at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands. This event will feature four teams: the Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, and New York Islanders, in two NHL regular-season outdoor games.
Saturday, February 17th, will see the New Jersey Devils hosting the Philadelphia Flyers. On Sunday, February 18th, the New York Rangers are set to face off against the New York Islanders. This will be the first time that four NHL teams have played outdoor games at the same venue in front of fans.
The 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series will mark the 40th and 41st NHL regular-season outdoor games. This event follows the 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic and the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic as the third and fourth contests scheduled for the 2023-24 NHL regular-season.
All four teams participating in the Stadium Series have previously played in regular-season outdoor games. The Flyers have participated in five, the Rangers in four, and both the Devils and Islanders in one each.
The event will highlight some of the League's top talents, including 2023 NHL All-Stars such as Jack Hughes from New Jersey, Kevin Hayes from Philadelphia, Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin, and Igor Shesterkin from NY Rangers, and Brock Nelson, Bo Horvat, and Ilya Sorokin from NY Islanders.
The four teams are long-standing, continuous division rivals. They have competed in the Patrick Division (1982-1993), Atlantic Division (1993-2013), and Metropolitan Division (2013-Present).
In the regular-season games played so far, the Flyers hold a nine-point advantage over the Devils. The Flyers and Devils have evenly split their six Stanley Cup Playoffs match ups, with New Jersey winning the most recent meeting in the 2012 Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Rangers hold a three-point advantage over the Islanders in the 289 regular-season games. Although the Islanders have won five of the eight Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Rangers, the Rangers emerged victorious in their most recent meeting, the 1994 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
