My Epic Weekend In Pictures

Editor note: this weekend I'll be in Boston visiting my family. It's our annual Saint Patrick's Day Party this weekend. I'll be back in Jersey Tuesday with my Epic Weekend In Pictures here. You can always see it in real time on Instagram Story, @SteveAllanRadio. Thank you!

This was definitely a weekend I'll never forget. We'll start with positives from these past few days. Thursday morning just after 9am I was in the 102.3 WSUS Air Studio recording my weather forecasts that play throughout the day. I could hear some background noise even with my headphones on. I look over to the opening door, followed by Garret and Rhianna from Father John's Animal House. I could see that they were doing a live video of some sort. This was strange, they're several hours early before Pet Of The Week. I don't do surprises well!

Garret, Rhianna and several of my coworkers were filming us and started applauding. Turns out that my friends at Father John's Animal House have now started doing Thankful Thursday, where every month they'll honor someone who goes above and beyond to help the animals. They surprised and humbled me by announcing that I would be their first ever Thankful Thursday Award Winner. I got choked up. Tough to believe that this month is the ten year anniversary of my Adopt A Pet Of The Week on our radio station. You can see the whole video by clicking here. We received tons of positive feedback on our video. I do Facebook Live videos all the time. This one was definitely different. Normally when you see me do a Facebook Live video, I'm kind of directing the fun we have. In this case, I had no idea what was happening getting totally surprised. Several friends were cracking up saying I did well, and knowing my mannerisms, enjoying the comedy of me being totally out of my element and uncomfortable. Shout out to my bestie Benvie in Georgia, who called me Thursday night to say he was proud of me and that I did great, despite being so surprised.

Friday was a crazy busy day at the radio stations. We have a couple of concert giveaways this week, which means for us behind the scenes making those fun concert commercials you hear on the radio. They can be a ton of work, but also can be really fun to put together. I produced a concert recorded promo with Daryl Hall and Elvis Costello. It was fun putting in Out Of Touch and Veronica. Lots of work but so much fun.

Friday we had plans to go to Industry Kitchen & Bar in Sparta for happy hour with coworkers. I had a great time with work besties Shawn and Mike. I was so fried, they looked over at me and said "Steve are you actually too tired to even drink?" I almost was. I just took my time sipping my Smoke & Embers drink. The bar was packed for Guest Appreciation. I joked with owner Steve that we need to pull back the Industry and Mohawk House commercials I do because now I can't even get a seat at the bar! LOL. We had a great time hanging out.

I then went over to Jasen & Brendan's seeing them and Jasen's sister Jennifer. We had a great time catching up.

Saturday seemed to be a normal routine day at first, until I took a shower. The shower did not turn off and kept running and running no matter what I did. I had to reach out to my landlord and ask for a plumber to come over. By 5pm the plumber showed up and was able to turn it off. He switched the faucets in my shower. I think I need to ask them to come back because the water hasn't been warm ever since. The struggles continue.

I spent a good chunk of my weekend watching The Dynasty on Apple Plus. I have to say that when The Dynasty book came out written by Jeff Benedict, it was possibly my most favorite book ever. It was such a fun behind the scenes of The New England Patriots from the past 30 years. I absolutely loved the book.

The Dynasty on Apple Plus? It's rather negative at times. They skip over the second and third Super Bowl win by the Patriots. It tends to put a negative light on Bill Belichick. They focused so much on the negative stuff like Spygate, and Aaron Hernandez, DeflateGate, etc. Maybe it wouldn't have been as entertaining if they focused on all of the success stories the Patriots have had. Either way, I'll watch the remaining parts left in this series.

Sunday I went out to see besties Christine, Chris and Carrie. I was in Franklin doing errands, and came up with the random idea to surprise them with fried dumplings and wings from The Irish Cottage Inn. Christine and Chris are amazing at entertaining. Christine makes charcuterie boards that are out of this planet. I wanted to surprise them and add to their food selection. We had a great time hanging out together for sure.

Overall it was a decent weekend. I'm hoping this shower situation doesn't turn into an ongoing pain in the neck. We'll see. Time to start planning next weekend, Shipping Up To Boston seeing my family!
