At first fire departments responding to a serious house fire at 39 Halsted Street in Newton thought people were in the house. Brave firemen raced in to save them but soon found out the home was empty. Fire Departments from several area communities were on the scene for 3 hours. Flames traveled fast and burned through the roof of the large house. There was a lot of smoke and flames but no one was injured. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
