Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) will commence a helicopter survey of power tranmission lines across Sussex County starting Wednesday (June 12). The survey, expected to take seven days, weather permitting, will be conducted using a Blue Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopter with tail number N719CB.
The survey involves a routine visual patrol where the onboard inspector will examine the structures, conductors, and all associated hardware on the transmission lines. The aim is to identify any outstanding issues or immediate threats to the reliability of the transmission lines. The helicopter may hover or circle to get a closer look at any potential problems identified during these patrols.
This type of survey is a common practice used by power companies to ensure the safety and reliability of their power lines. It allows for the early detection of potential issues that could lead to power outages if left unaddressed.
Residents should not be alarmed if they see the helicopter hovering or circling over power lines in their area. The survey is part of JCP&L's ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability of its power grid.
