The New York Giants will be sporting a new look for their 100th season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on September 8th. The team will wear their 'Century Red' uniforms, a throwback to the franchise's early days. The uniform features tan pants, red socks with blue and white stripes, red jerseys accented with blue, and a winged helmet that pays tribute to the 1938 champions.
The 'Century Red' uniform is a modernized version of the 1933 jersey, 1925 pants and socks, and the 1938 helmet. It was designed by Nike in collaboration with the Giants to combine memorable components of the team's past with a modern feel. The uniform is expected to be worn up to two times this season to honor the team's past.
"The Century Red uniform puts a modern twist on some of our earliest uniforms and is worn to honor the players who laid the foundation of Giants football," said Giants director of creative services Doug Murphy to ESPN. "We meticulously researched past Giants uniforms to ensure historical accuracy. We are proud that this uniform is a part of our 100th season celebration."
However, not everyone is thrilled with the new look. Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers chuckled when asked by The Bleacher Report about the red jerseys before saying it's "gonna be hard to swag it out."
The Giants are also expected to wear their legacy uniform introduced in 2022 for a game this season, in addition to the new centennial edition, as a part of their 100th season celebration. They unveiled their 100th season patch earlier this week that will be on all their jerseys.
