The Town of Newton has initiated a hydrant flushing program for all fire hydrants within its water system. The program began today (June 7) and is scheduled to continue until Tuesday (June 11), according to town officials.
The flushing process for water customers in Sparta and Andover is to take place on Friday (June 7) between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. For Newton water customers, the flushing is scheduled for Sunday (June 9) and Tuesday (June 11), between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The schedule may be disrupted due to inclement weather or emergency utility work. During the flushing period, residents may experience low water pressure or discolored water. This is due to the dislodging of materials in the water distribution mains. The town advises residents to avoid washing clothes while the water is discolored to prevent potential staining.
