Monroe County is among the first to receive the Pennsylvania's new Liberty Bell welcome signs. Governor Josh Shapiro unveiled the signs this week, which will be installed across the state in preparation for America's 250th birthday in 2026. The signs feature a white background, a blue and red Liberty Bell, and the words 'Let Freedom Ring' along the bottom. The first sign in Monroe County is located on I-80.
Eight signs have already been installed in Adams, Bucks, Erie, Fulton, Monroe, Potter, Susquehanna, and Tioga counties. An additional 29 signs will be installed across the Commonwealth in the coming months.
The new signs are part of a broader initiative to celebrate Pennsylvania's role as the birthplace of American democracy and freedom. Governor Shapiro stated, "With all eyes on Pennsylvania as we prepare to host our country's 250th birthday in 2026, our new license plates and welcome signs will celebrate the best of what the Commonwealth has to offer and show the country why Pennsylvania is the Great American Getaway and the birthplace of American freedom."
