What’s better than a good night out for a good cause? Not much, and that’s why Family Promise of Sussex County is inviting all to attend their biggest fundraiser of the year on May 22 at the county fairgrounds. All the favorite games of chance – blackjack, roulette, craps, poker and slots – will be available to play that Thursday night. Buffett dinner, champagne toast, hor d’oeuvres, and $50 in casino money are on the menu, along with music and karaoke by deejay Ray Sikora. Tickets are $100 per person and are available starting March 20th through the Family Promise website at: familypromisesussex.org. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event ends at 10 o’clock. No tickets will be sold at the door.

“Our May 22 fundraiser is important for two reasons,” says Dawn Hendershot, Community Manager at the Newton-based organization. “One, the need for housing and related support is critical and is not going away. Secondly, this is a key source of revenue for us and allows us to help those in need.” Proceeds will benefit the Housing Hope Emergency Shelter program, along with other agency programs. Housing Hope offers rental units as short-term temporary shelters for clients – an essential first step to housing stability. Providing someone with a clean, safe, stable environment is a necessity to help them obtain permanent and sustainable housing. The program also provides crucial support in the form of intensive case management and basic necessities like food, hygiene products, etc. “This shelter model receives partial funding from local government and foundation sources,” Hendershot says, “but your help is needed to fill the gaps and allow us to continue to provide this essential resource to the community.”

Family Promise of Sussex County works to eradicate homelessness in Sussex County and provides resources to strengthen individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis.
