What's better fresh or frozen produce?

A new study published by The Journal of Food Composition and Analysis says frozen fruits and vegetables are more nutritious than fresh fruits and veggies in the produce aisle. Yes Frozen! Here are the reasons why:

1. Frozen Fruits and vegetables are frozen right after they are picked when they have peak nutrient value.

2. Fresh produce sometimes takes days to get to the store and sits in refrigeration loosing nutrient value each day.

This might not always be true in our area because where we live there are  plenty of farms.  Farmers markets and farm stands get fresh produce to us right after it's picked. What we can learn from this study is the benefits of buying locally grown fruits and vegetables are maximized if we eat them right away.  So the best thing to do is hit the farm stand on the way home from work and enjoy those fresh veggies the same night with dinner.  I can't wait to start driving home from work and seeing all the farm stand open again. Just a little while longer.
