A study done at the University of Alberta finds that kids who live in a home with pets have a lower risk of allergies and obesity because of higher levels of two bacteria in their homes. Having a dog in the house exposes babies to the microbes Ruminococcus and Oscillospira which live in the digestive system. These bacteria have been shown to boost a child's immune system early in life. Now if I could only get my dog to stop trying to steal my grand daughter's food from the tray on her high chair.
