The White House is bracing for a possible government shutdown.
The government runs out of money at midnight and a short-term spending extension is stalled in the Senate.
In a briefing today, White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney said the Trump administration does not want a shutdown.
He accused Senate Democrats of prompting a funding crisis.
Mulvaney said President Trump is actively working to get a deal to avert a shutdown.
White House Legislative Affairs Director Marc Short said a shutdown would jeopardize ongoing military funding.
Democrats want longterm protections for Dreamers, young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.
The House passed a one-month funding extension last night.
