Plans for Second SCCC Campus Move Forward

Sussex County Community College is working on creating a second campus that will offer programs in welding, diesel mechanics, machine technology and auto service. The programs will be based out of the former McGuire Chevrolet property on Main Street in Newton.

The college currently offers a welding class but it is taught in a small classroom on campus with a limit of 15 students at a time. If the college acquires the property they will immediately begin renovation of the rear portion of the building. The mechanic and automotive courses will be based out of the back of the building and the front will potentially be used for culinary classes in the future.

The college plans to use existing money for a one-year lease until a full sale can be negotiated. The lease will allow the college to begin offering mechanical and welding classes in the fall term.
