Bankruptcy Negotiations Mountain Creek with Vernon Continue

Mountain Creek and Vernon are still working together towards a settlement option.  Many in Sussex County are scarred from flashbacks over the failed Solar Project.  That would be wonderful news for Vernon and Sussex County.  Many taxpayers have feared that this proceeding could have a negative impact on their lives.  Vernon taxpayers reportedly already pay towards both the solar project and 911 central dispatch system, even though they get no benefits from either.  The chain reaction continued when Vernon notified the SCMUA that they couldn't pay their obligation.  Both Mountain Creek and Vernon are hopeful that they're coming up with a solution that can be a win for everyone.

Vernon and Mayor Harry Shortway are trying to figure out who should pay the $28 million debt.  This is a challenging situation for sure.  Vernon is a tourism based community, and Mountain Creek brings in thousands of tourists year round.  Until Sussex County gains more destinations for families, our success rides heavily on the current attractions we have.  Hopefully Vernon, Sussex County and Mountain Creek can all find the best possible solution on an enormous $28 million debt, without negatively impacting our costs of living.  Mountain Creek recently proposed some of their plans to the courts, you can see those here.

Mountain Creek has been predicting their plans for our area over the past several months.  This plan is becoming much closer to reality with their new development agreement.  They'll reportedly do studies on what our area can handle.  I'm VERY excited for this development.  If they do a winery near Mountain Creek South on 94, count me IN!  A winery near where I live, and with beautiful mountain views?  Yes!  This will be on the Sammis Farm property, right near South with absolutely gorgeous views.  That being said, I'm hopeful there will be additional infrastructure plans to help this transition.  Route 94 has shown it can't handle too much.  Can you imagine a winery with a golf course or ski slope view?  Great potential.  You can click here and see the full story.

These could be major steps in rebuilding Vernon, Sussex County and Jersey.  With Legends possibly being rebuilt into a major destination, this can be a great boost for our local economy.
