Stillwater pool filling driver puts out garbage truck fire

Truck driver Doug Geesey was in the right place at the right time. Tuesday afternoon he was on a ramp to Route 287 when he saw a garbage truck with a rear wheel sparking and burning. The driver of the truck had no idea he was in danger. Geesey and other drivers finally got the garbage truck to pull over. Geesey drives a truck for Waterman pool filling company in Stillwater. When he pulled behind the garbage truck he realized he still had about 100 gallons of water left in his truck after filling a pool in Montville. As he quickly hooked up his hoses the smoking garbage truck tire burst into flames. With the help of the garbage truck driver Geesey was able to get water on the flames and keep the fire under control. The Boonton Fire Department and New Jersey State Police arrived moments later. A bad bearing in the garbage truck's wheel caused the fire. Geesey is not a trained fireman but it didn't stop him from putting himself at risk to help someone else.
