State Officials: Do NOT Touch Lake Hopatcong Water!

The Department Of Environmental Protection has posted warnings concerning Lake Hopatcong. After an aerial observation, the state discovered large and potentially dangerous amounts of Harmful Algal Bloom in the water. Contact or consumption of the water could lead to skin issues, pneumonia, and gastrointestinal issues. The ban includes fishing, since you don't want to be in contact with fish who have been in this contaminated water. State officials say it's possible that recent heavy rains and now hot weather have contributed to this situation. The advisory could potentially last several weeks. Talk about less than ideal timing! The fireworks show from Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club is reportedly still on as scheduled.
