Tuesday Night the body of a deceased new born baby was discovered in a parking lot on Orange Street in Port Jervis. According to the police report the baby was discovered around 10:30 and the umbilical cord was still attached. Temperatures in the area were in the teens. As of Wednesday afternoon police did not know who the baby's mother was or the cause of death. A few hours ago Record on Line updated this heart breaking story with some new information. Last night Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden said the mother of the infant has been identified and police have spoken with her. At this time no charges have been filed. Police are awaiting the results from an autopsy performed by the Orange County Medical Examiners Office. Those results could tell investigators if the baby died before or after he or she was born.
