Yesterday's Kids Christmas Concert Series mix up

This year's weather and power outages have forced us to cancel many Kids Christmas Concert Series performances because schools have been closed or had delayed openings. I love doing this every year. No bones about it. This has been upsetting to me. Yesterday the weather was good and we were anxiously awaiting the 8 o'clock performance of the High Point High School Jazz Ensemble. The bus with the ensemble arrived while I was doing a live "Jersey Strong Trivia" call in contest sometime around 7:15. With headphones on and phones ringing for the contest I did not see the light that indicated there was someone at the door. I do not keep my cell phone in the studio when I am live on the air. I do check my phone every few minutes when a group of kids is expected. When the contest was over at 7:30 I went to open the door and the Jazz Ensemble had left moments before. I did not know they would have to get back on the bus and return to the school if it took several minutes to open the door. This was clearly an unintended situation for us and for the school. I think it is safe to say everyone involved is disappointed. When the Jazz Ensemble Performance did not air as scheduled several parents took to social media to condemn WSUS because the performance did not take place. I don't think they understood it was a timing problem. I was here but on the air performing. 20 area schools participate in the WSUS Kids Christmas Concert Series every December. We schedule at least one and most of the time two live performances each morning. We've never had a mistake like this happen before. The WSUS Morning Show is a live and local show every weekday morning. I arrive every morning at 4 AM. Even when 20 inches of snow is on the ground. My heart goes out to the kids and their teacher who worked so hard to make their planned performance wonderful. Every year the High Point Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Singers perform on my show. I enjoy both performances very much. I have invited the Jazz Ensemble back to record a performance this week or next week. We would then air that performance at 8 o'clock December 23rd or 24th. I'm sure the school administration will do their best to make this happen. Today we are looking forward to performances by the High Point Chamber Singers at 8 o'clock and the Lafayette Township School Chorus at 8:35.
