Governor Murphy's new budget calls for an "investment" in K-12 education. If you live in Sussex County your investment will be going elsewhere. New Jersey taxpayers are being asked to spend $336 million dollars more in the next fiscal year but only 64 percent of the state's school systems will get more funding. The city of Newark will be the biggest winner with a $55 Million dollar increase. Jersey City which is right across Newark Bay will loose $55 Million because of it's expanded tax base. Almost every school district in Sussex County will loose or see no benefit. Under the Governor's proposed new formula Newton Schools will receive $677,000 more (a 9 percent increase). State aid to Sussex Tech and Sussex Borough will sty the same. Every other Sussex County School district will get less. The losses in aid that stand out are Vernon and Hopatcong. Both stand to loose over $1.7 million dollars. High Point and Kittatinny will both have their aid cut by over $700,000 dollars. Byram Schools and Wallkill Valley will loose almost $400,000 each. I guess the governor believes it's not a priority to help taxpayers or kids in rural New Jersey. Thanks gov.
