Judge orders Psych evaluation for Port Jervis mom who abandoned newborn

Nicole Layman cried during her arraignment in a Goshen, New York courtroom yesterday. Her court appointed attorney Andrew Greher entered not guilty pleas on all six charges she is facing. Greher also asked Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Prisco to order a psychiatric and competency exam for his client and Judge Prisco agreed. After the court hearing Greher told Record Online: "Mental health is a component here. This is somebody who was diagnosed with significant mental health issues for years." Layman has been accused of abandoning her newborn daughter this past November in a Port Jervis, New York parking lot. The unclothed uncovered baby was discovered after she died in the below freezing temperatures.
