Coronavirus Update: N.J. N.Y. Pa. Monday March 16th

Each morning this week and maybe next I will continue to provide the latest information and post it on this page by 6 AM.

As of Sunday, New Jersey has 98 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and two deaths. 13 of New Jersey's 21 counties have reported cases. So far there have been no cases reported in Sussex County. Just about every school in New Jersey is closed this morning. Today Governor Murphy will announce all schools will be closed for at least the next two weeks. Local school districts are working on "Grab and Go" plans for children who are fed by school lunch programs. He is expected to announce more sweeping restrictions for New Jersey residents today. Which may include closing restaurants and bars and possibly a statewide curfew. In a radio interview yesterday the governor said "there is too much business as usual." "New Jersey needs a good shaking." All New Jersey inspection road test facilities have been closed.

New York state now has the country's largest number of Coronavirus cases. Over 500 cases have been confirmed including two New York State legislators from Brooklyn. There have been two deaths. All schools in the state will be closed for at least the next two weeks. Governor Cuomo has asked all non-essential businesses to voluntarily close. That includes all restaurants and bars. If a restaurant chooses to stay open only pick up or take out orders will be permitted. As many people as possible should work from home. If not enough businesses close on their own the governor could mandate more closings.

So far the State Of Pennsylvania has had no deaths from the Coronavirus. There are 63 cases statewide including one confirmed case in Pike County. All Pennsylvania Schools will be closed for two weeks. Governor Wolfe has asked that all social gatherings of 250 or more in the state be cancelled. Most Coronavirus cases in the state are in and around Pittsburgh. Authorities in Pittsburgh have additional restrictions on businesses and public gatherings.

One more thing. If Governor Murphy does impose a statewide curfew which would make traveling to work at 4 AM a problem for me. I will sleep at WSUS each night so I can continue to provide you with important local information each morning.
