Kate Middleton Shuts Down ‘False’ Story About Her Feud With Meghan Markle

Kensington Palace released a rare statement about a recent profile on Kate Middleton that ran in the British magazine Tatler. The profile—which the Duchess of Cambridge did not participate in—revisited those old rumors regarding a feud between Kate and Meghan Markle.

The article, titled 'Catherine the Great', praises Kate for hard work and dedication to her royal duties amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The downside, however, is that the praise comes at the expense of Kate's sister-in-law, who stepped down as a senior member of the Royal Family shortly before the coronavirus shutdowns began. According to the article, Kate's workload increased exponentially after Meghan and Prince Harry departed the Royal Family.

"Kate is furious about the larger workload. Of course she’s smiling and dressing appropriately but she doesn’t want this. She feels exhausted and trapped," a source told Tatler for the profile. "She’s working as hard as a top CEO, who has to be wheeled out all the time, without the benefits of boundaries and plenty of holidays."

In addition to Kate's alleged fury over her extra work load, the article also claims Kate and Meghan had a major falling out before the Duchess of Sussex's wedding in 2018. Their squabble was reported to have happened during a fitting for Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress. The Tatler article shed more light on what went down. According to the magazine's source, Kate and Meghan argued over whether the bridesmaids—all children—needed to follow royal protocol and wear tights with their dresses. The girls didn't end wearing tights, which means Meghan "won" the argument.

The article also claims that Kate never really liked Meghan in the first place. A source said Kate never "pulled Meghan under her wing" and that she and Prince William were "circumspect from the beginning" about Meghan, which is what drove a wedge between the two princes.

According to the palace, however, none of this is true. “This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication," a Palace spokesperson said of the Tatler profile in a statement sent to multiple news outlets.

A spokesperson for Tatler, however, told Entertainment Tonight that the magazine's Editor-in-Chief Richard Dennen stands behind the reporting of Anna Pasternak, who wrote the 'Catherine the Great' profile, as well as her sources who spoke about Kate and the royal drama. "Kensington Palace knew we were running the 'Catherine the Great' cover months ago and we asked them to work together on it. The fact they are denying they ever knew is categorically false," the spokesperson said.
