Federal relief bill would benefit Newton Theatre

Covid-19 restrictions have closed movie theaters and other indoor entertainment venues across the country for the past 4 months. An association of independent theater owners says the continued shut down could lead to up to 90 percent of indoor entertainment venues closing permanently. With that in mind two U.S. Senators have proposed a bill that would provide Federal dollars for Small Business Association grants. Local independent theaters like The Newton Theatre could get much needed help from the "Save Our Stages Act" The President of the National Independent Venue Association Dayna Frank says: "With no revenue and immense overhead, it's already happening. The warning light is flashing red and our only hope is legislation like the "Save Our Stages Act." The bill would provide up to 10 Billion Dollars to assist independent indoor entertainment venues. Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas and Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota teamed up to write and propose the aid package.
