Bill that allows 17 year old voters in N.J. Primaries advances

This week a legislative committee advanced Bill A2763. Which would allow New Jersey 17 year old citizens to vote in primary elections. As long as they turn 18 by the time the general election comes around. Supporters of the legislation are calling it another expansion of voting rights. There are 18 other states that allow 17 year old primary voters right now. An estimated 40,000 17 year old voters would be able to register and participate in New Jersey primary elections if the bill makes it into law. Historically, about 20 percent of all eligible New Jersey voters cast ballots in primary elections.
