The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council says Americans will eat 150 million hot dogs on July 4th every year. The most preferred drink to enjoy a hot dog with is soda. Beer is a close second. The top three ways we enjoy eating our hot dogs are:
New York Style: That's an all beef hot dog topped with steamed onions and mustard.
Chicago Style: That's an all beef hot dog topped with yellow mustard, green relish, chopped raw onion, peppers, tomato slices, celery seed. Served on a poppy seed bun.
Michigan Coney Style: That's an all beef hot dog with meaty chili sauce, mustard and onion.
The council says the only thing that doesn't belong on a hot dog is ketchup. They didn't say anything about barbecue sauce. If I had to pick my favorite of the three above it would be the Michigan Coney minus the mustard. I like my hot dogs topped with American cheese. I like everything topped with American Cheese. By the way. Whatever happened to sauerkraut?
