There will be no black bear hunt in New Jersey because the state no longer has a black bear management policy. The State Division of Fish Game and Wildlife made the end of the hunt official yesterday with a post on it's website. The post said the comprehensive black bear management policy required by the New Jersey Supreme Court had "expired." Back in 2018 Governor Murphy ended the black bear hunt on public lands. In a joint press release the legislators representing Sussex And Warren Counties accused The Murphy Administration and State DEP of "playing divisive politics." Senator Steve Oroho and Assemblymen Parker Space and Hal Wirths said the lack of a bear hunt will increase the likelihood of "hazardous human encounters" with black bears. "Throughout this pandemic Governor Murphy has preached about following the science, yet in this instance he is blindly obeying his version of political science" according to Senator Oroho.
