U.S. Coast Guard rescues 7 people from fishing boat off Cape May

The United States Coast Guard doesn't always get the recognition they deserve. So when I get a chance to share a story about how their training and bravery saves lives. I'm happy to do it. On Sunday afternoon the crew of a 40 foot fishing boat had to activate their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. They were 60 miles off Cape May in the middle of a storm that was creating 10 foot waves. That were washing over the sides of the ship. The Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City, North Carolina dispatched an MH 60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC 130 Hercules plane to the scene. While another Coast Guard station in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware sent a 47 foot motor lifeboat. When the Coast Guard arrived all 7 crew members were air lifted to safety. Jayhawk helicopters can fly up to 200 miles per hour. See the picture below.
