Hamburg man becomes part of U.S. Marine Corps history

First Lt. John Roger Rueckel III of Hamburg became the last to receive the U.S. Marine Corps "Wings of Gold" after completing rigorous weapons system officer training at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. Rueckel is now a weapons system officer after graduating with the "Sabrehawks" of training squadron 86. His graduation marks a moment in Marine Corps and Navy history because the military is transitioning to a new aircraft. A weapons systems officer sits in the rear of a fighter aircraft and oversees all weapons systems, navigation support, communications and is involved with all flight operations.
