A toll rate increase is set to take effect this Sunday, January 7, 2024, impacting drivers seeking to cross the Delaware and Hudson Rivers to leave the Garden State.
Motorists looking to cross one of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission's 8 tolled bridges will see an increase of 25¢ if paying by E-Z pass for passenger vehicles, bringing the toll to $1.50. The cash and toll by plate rates remain at $3.00. The per-axle rates for trucks, buses, and other vehicles that are 8 feet or more in height have been set at $4.50 per axle for E-ZPass users, and $5 per axle for cash or toll by plate payments. A full list of the new tolls is posted on the Commission's website.
The Commission plans to convert its entire network of toll bridges to cashless systems. The New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge is expected to be the first tolling point where toll by plate billing will be implemented, potentially expanding to local bridges by late January 2024.
Meanwhile, at the Hudson River, all bridges and tunnels under the jurisdiction of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are also set to see toll increases of approximately 3.7 percent. E-Z Pass off-peak rates for passenger vehicles increase to $13.88, peak hours to $15.38, and toll by mail users will be billed $17.63. Larger vehicles will see corresponding increases.
The tools for crossing the Hudson River were last adjusted in January 2023, while tolls for the upper Delaware River were last adjusted in April 2021.
