A new study reveals the states with the best school systems, and New Jersey clinched the second position, outperforming most other states in the United States. The research, conducted by educational resource site Teach Simple, used data from sources like the National Center for Education Statistics to analyze factors such as bullying rate, academic performance, and pupil-to-teacher ratio. Each of these parameters received a score out of 10, which then determined the overall ranking.
While Massachusetts secured the top spot with a final score of 71.54, New Jersey followed closely, securing a score of 69.19. The state stood out in multiple categories. In Grade 8, New Jersey students achieved an average score of 269.78 for reading and 175.33 for writing, earning the state a perfect score of 10 in this category.
Moreover, the rate of students possessing firearms in New Jersey schools was merely 0.43%, reflecting the state's commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment for its students. Another area where New Jersey shone was its public expenditure on student support, food services, and transportation, which stands at $3,625 per pupil.
In the same ranking, Connecticut bagged the third place with a score of 62.80, while New York took the fourth place with a final score of 62.31. Pennsylvania ranked ninth with a score of 55.52.
