Port Jervis, New York, has been awarded $10 million from the state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) for nine projects aimed at economic redevelopment. The announcement was made by Governor Kathy Hochul, who emphasized that these investments would drive economic revitalization and create thriving communities.
The projects, totaling $9.7 million, include $2.6 million for Riverside Park amenities, $2 million for affordable housing, and significant funds for mixed-use developments, historic building renovations, streetscape enhancements, and public space improvements. These initiatives aim to create a walkable, economically diverse, and climate-sustainable downtown that leverages the scenic Delaware River's beauty and opportunities.
"These major investments will drive economic revitalization for businesses and local communities and create a place where families can thrive," Hochul said to the Westfair Business Journal.
The DRI was created in 2016 to accelerate and expand the revitalization of downtowns and neighborhoods in all ten regions of the state to serve as centers of activity and catalysts for investment. The initiative represents an unprecedented and innovative "plan-then-act" strategy that couples strategic planning with immediate implementation.
