A fatal crash involving an off-duty Franklin Borough police officer's car is still under investigation. The incident occurred on Monday (May 27) at State Route 23 and Walsh Road in Franklin Borough. The officer's department vehicle collided with a civilian's car shortly before 11 a.m.

The female passenger in the civilian car sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Morristown Medical Center. She was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning. The male driver of the car was treated for his injuries and released. The officer involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The identities of those involved have not been released. The Attorney General’s Office is conducting the investigation, as is standard procedure for all officer-involved fatalities while acting in their official capacities under a 2019 law. The results of the investigation will be presented to a grand jury to determine if an indictment is necessary.
