Long Branch is preparing for a potential pop-up party this weekend at the Jersey Shore. The event, which is being promoted on social media, has prompted local officials to issue warnings and take preventative measures.
The city has identified three promoters behind the event and has sent them cease and desist letters in an attempt to prevent the chaos seen in similar gatherings in the past. In 2022, a pop-up party in Long Branch resulted in hundreds of teenagers causing damage to store windows and littering the beach.
"We will not tolerate these unsanctioned pop-up parties. Our Police Department, along with county and state agencies, have been extremely successful in finding those who create and share these posts. We will identify and hold responsible anyone who does not follow the law," said Mayor John Pallone in a statement to WNBC-TV.
In preparation for the potential event, police patrols in the area will be increased. If necessary, a curfew may be imposed. Visitors to the beach this weekend should expect their bags and coolers to be inspected before being allowed on the sand.
Despite the warnings and preparations, some residents are choosing to leave town for the weekend. "People in the building warned us, so we’re gonna leave. Spend the weekend somewhere else with family because I don’t want to risk it," said Daniella Santomo to WNBC-TV, a visitor from Florida.
