Cozy Lake Elementary School in Jefferson Township, Morris County is set to close at the end of the current school year due to significant state funding cuts. The district is reportedly short by three million dollars, a deficit they attribute to the loss of state funds over several years. Despite efforts to reduce costs, including staff reductions, the district has been unable to close the deficit.
The closure was announced at a Board of Education meeting on September 16. The district has also decided to put the Central Office building on the real estate market. The district has set up a District Reconfiguration page on its website to provide updates and answer community questions about these decisions.
According to the Jefferson Township Public Schools website, the district is currently hiring to fill permanent and substitute vacancies. The district is also celebrating the achievements of its staff and students, including Alyssa Guagenti, a middle school teacher who was named Morris County's Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025.
