PATH train service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center resumed late Thursday (January 23) after a broken rail caused a five-hour suspension. Crews discovered the broken rail between Exchange Place and the World Trade Center, leading to the shutdown around 4:30 p.m. Repairs were initially expected to last through the evening rush but extended into the late evening, with service resuming around 9:45 p.m.

During the suspension, Newark-to-World Trade Center trains operated on a 20-minute schedule, while Hoboken-to-33rd Street and Journal Square-to-33rd Street lines remained operational. To assist commuters, NJ Transit rail cross-honored PATH tickets at Hoboken, Newark, and New York Penn Station. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and NY Waterway ferries also accepted PATH tickets at various locations.

The disruption occurred a week before the Hoboken PATH station's planned closure for a three-and-a-half-week renovation starting Thursday (January 30). The Port Authority plans to offer additional ferry services and free shuttle buses during the closure to accommodate travelers.
